Writers Lawrence Kasdan ("The Empire Strikes Back," "Raiders of the Lost Ark") and Simon Kinberg ("Sherlock Holmes," "X-Men: Days of Future Past") have reportedly closed deals to pen the final two instalments of the new "Star Wars" trilogy for Disney/Lucasfilm says THR.
The pair join Oscar winner Michael Arndt ("Toy Story 3," "Little Miss Sunshine") who is writing the script for the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII," the first of a new trilogy of films being made without direct input from creator George Lucas.
The decisoin of whom will write Episode VIII and/or Episode IX has not been determined.
Kasdan and Kinberg would also join the projects as producers with Kathleen Kennedy.
The draft is said to include Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo in their later years, which may mean mean those early rumours of Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher being interested in returning could be true. No word yet if Mark Hamill could be tempted to return as Luke Skywalker... And Might Vader Return?
Rumors also speculated that Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) and Colin Trevorrow, both personal favorites of franchise creator George Lucas--were in conderation to direct as were Brad Bird, J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg. Zack Snyder Guillermo del Toro and Quentin Tarantino--all of whom said they would NOT take the gig
Disney and Lucasfilm had no comment.
